Editorial Policy

PetClaim publishes content people rely on to challenge a pet-insurance denial — sometimes for thousands of dollars in care. We treat that responsibility seriously. This page explains how our content is researched, reviewed, dated, corrected, and disclosed.

Who writes for PetClaim

Every reference page, appeal playbook, and encyclopedia entry on PetClaim is produced by a named author with verifiable credentials in either veterinary medicine, insurance claims, or consumer-protection law. Our current bylined contributors:

Dr. Priya Shah, DVM — Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Small-animal veterinarian with 11 years of clinical practice in the US. Reviews PetClaim's medical and condition content for clinical accuracy and SOAP-note completeness.
Marcus Okafor — Insurance Claims Analyst, AINS. Former property & casualty claims analyst (AINS-designated) who spent six years adjudicating health-related claims before moving to consumer advocacy. Researches insurer policy language and appeal procedures.
Jenna Rivera, Esq. — Consumer Protection Attorney (NY, NJ Bar). Consumer-protection attorney focused on state Department of Insurance complaints and the Unfair Claims Settlement Practices Act. Reviews PetClaim's state-by-state escalation content.

How content is sourced

Insurer policy claims are sourced directly from current carrier sample policies, claim FAQs, and appeal-procedure pages. We link to the source for every policy-specific statement.
State law claims are sourced from the relevant state Insurance Code, the state Department of Insurance, and the NAIC Unfair Claims Settlement Practices Act model.
Veterinary claims are sourced from AVMA position statements, peer-reviewed veterinary literature where available, and the clinical judgment of our DVM reviewer.

Review cadence

Every reference page carries a visible Last reviewed date. Pages tied to insurer procedures or state law are reviewed at least every six months and immediately when the underlying source changes. Pages tied to clinical content are reviewed annually by our DVM.

Corrections

We publish corrections inline at the top of the affected page and log the correction with a date. To request a correction, email corrections@petclaim.app with the URL and a link to the contradicting source.

AI usage disclosure

AI tools assist with two narrow tasks: drafting initial templates that an editor rewrites, and generating personalized appeal letters from user-supplied facts. No reference page on this site is published as raw AI output. Every page is rewritten and checked by a credentialed editor before publication.

Affiliate disclosure

Some insurer links on PetClaim are affiliate links. Affiliate relationships do not influence rankings. We rank insurers on appeal friendliness, claim turnaround, and coverage quality — never on commission. Insurers we do not have an affiliate relationship with appear and rank identically to those we do.

Independence

PetClaim is independent. We are not owned by, operated by, or controlled by any insurer or insurance broker. No insurer has editorial review of our content prior to publication.
